TheBenxiWaterCaveislocatedintheXiakeMountain,whichistheremainderoftheChangbaiMountains.Themountainismediumandlow,witharelativeheightofonly200-300meters.TheTaiziRiverflows200metersbeforetheentranceofthecave.Thejadebeltislikeatraining,clearandmeandering,andthelowerreachesintotheLiaoheRiverintothesea.Theentranceofthecavefacesnorth,13metersabovetheTaiziRiver,andthecavebodyextendsintothemountains.  BenxiWaterCaveisalargeaquifer-typeundergroundriverkarstcaveformed400,000yearsago(MiddlePleistocene).TheprovencavesystemconsistsofJiuquYinheCave(maincave),PanlongCave(drycave),YinboCave(water-filledcave)andcontinuousdarkcavesupstream.TheBenxiWaterCavegenerallyrunsfromnorthwesttosoutheast,andthemainpassagesofthecavearecompletelydistributedinthehorizontaldirection,mostlyintheshapeofhalls,tunnels,hallsandcorridors.  Therearemorethan90scenicspotssuchas"NineCurves","SevenPalaces"and"ThreeGorges".TheBenxiWaterCaveis3,650meterslong,coversanareaof49,000squaremeters,andhasaspaceofmorethan400,000cubicmeters.Themostopenpartis38metershighand70meterswide.Theairinthecaveisunobstructed,thewaterflowisinexhaustibleallyearround,thedailyflowis14,000cubicmeters,theaveragewaterdepthis1.5meters,thedeepestpointis7meters,andtheconstanttemperatureinthecaveis12°C.Theriveriswindingandwinding,andthewateriscrystalclear.  Itwaspraisedas:"Stalactitesarethousandsofpeaksandscenery,lightboatsandclearwaterbetweenpoetryandpainting;Zhongxiushouldonlybefoundinthefairyworld,andthiscaveistheonlyoneintheworld".
